On 20 October 2015, the General Assembly of the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSOG) approved the admission of AB Amber Grid to full membership of the organisation (with effect as from 1 November 2015).
The Polish transmission system operator, Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., and the Lithuanian transmission system operator, AB Amber Grid, signed a trilateral agreement with the EU Innovation Network Executive Agency - INEA regarding the financial aid of the EU for the measure entitled “Construction of Gas Interconnection Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) including supporting infrastructure”. On the basis of the agreement, the project was awarded EU financial support, under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), to the amount of EUR 295.4 million.
October the 2nd, construction of Klaipėda–Kuršėnai gas pipeline has been completed. The pipeline was constructed in record time – within 27 months from the date of publication of a tender notice for design works. This is an event of great importance for the energy independence of both Lithuania and all the Baltic States.
The Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania (GIPL) project promoters, the Polish and Lithuanian gas transmission system operators, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and AB Amber Grid, have conducted the important milestone of the GIPL project implementation – the Non-Binding phase of the Open Season procedure.
The GIPL project has entered a new stage of works. On 21 August the Environmental Protection Agency under the Ministry of the Environment decided to give permission to perform planned economic activities in connection to the construction of GIPL in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.
