Another important stage in the construction of the GIPL completed – the first gas pipe has been laid under the Nemunas
 
One more important step has been taken in the implementation of the GIPL project, which will connect the Baltic region and Europe – the first 750-metre gas pipe has been laid in Alytus District under the Nemunas, the widest river in Lithuania.

Amber Grid generated EUR 24.9 m revenue in the first half of 2020

In the first half of the year, the revenue of Amber Grid, the Lithuanian gas transmission system operator belonging to the EPSO-G Group, when engaging in targeted construction of the connection with Poland, amounted to EUR 24.9 m. Compared to the same period of the last year, revenue of Amber Grid Group reduced by 4.3% mainly because since the beginning of the year system users were charged by almost 16 % lower prices for transmission services.

Amber Grid: laying of the gas pipeline under the River Nemunas is launched in the GIPL construction project

The most complicated works of the construction stage of the project of the gas pipeline link between Lithuania and Poland GIPL of great importance for the gas market of Lithuania and the whole region – horizontal directional drilling (HDD) under the rivers of Lithuania – are further continued. German contractors LMR Drilling carrying out environmentally-friendly works after successfully laying the section of the gas pipeline under the River Neris in June, this week have launched the HDD works of laying the gas pipeline under the River Nemunas in Alytus region.

Plummeting Gas Prices in the World Increased Both Gas Flows to the Baltic States and Electricity Generation in Lithuania

As very low gas prices prevailed in global markets during the past six months, Amber Grid, the Lithuanian gas transmission system operator, has increased gas transportation via the interconnection with Latvia. At the same time, growing gas consumption in Lithuania’s power sector was a counterbalance to a lower demand for gas in the first months of the year due to unusually warm weather.

Construction of the gas pipeline under the Neris completed smoothly in the gas interconnection project with Poland

The complex horizontal directional drilling (HDD) under the Neris River that is part of the Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania (GIPL) project being implemented by Amber Grid has been successfully completed. In order to reduce environmental impact, a section of the gas pipeline has been drawn along the bottom of the river at a depth of 20 metres, and will be connected to the already laid pipeline. Construction of the gas pipeline in Širvintos District and part of Elektrėnai Municipality is nearing completion.
