CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT OF KLAIPĖDA–KIEMĖNAI PIPELINE (CONSTRUCTION OF GAS PIPELINE KLAIPĖDA-KURŠĖNAI)
Goals of the Project:
- Diversify gas supply sources and routes in the Baltic Region,
- Create conditions for full utilization of the capacity of LNG Terminal in Klaipeda,
- Security and reliability of gas supplies.
The Project is implemented by:
- AB Amber Grid.
The Project milestones:
- Feasibility Study, Business Plan, Cost Benefit Analysis (2013),
- Project was included into the Union list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI) adopted by European Commission (2013),
- Lithuanian Government provided for the Project the status of national economic importance (2013),
- Environmental Impact Assessment and Territory Planning (2013-2014),
- Engineering design and construction (2014-2015). October the 2nd 2015, construction of gas pipeline Klaipėda–Kuršėnai has been completed.

- Technical parameters of the Gas Transmission Pipeline: length: ~110 km, diameter: Ø800 mm.
- Maximum operating pressure: 5.4 MPa.
- Investments: EUR 57.9 million.
The Project is a part of the following plans:
- The European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-G) Ten-year Network Development Plan for 2013–2022.
- Natural Gas Transmission System Operator ten-year system development plan for 2013–2022.
- The National Key Electricity and Gas Transmission Projects Implementation Plan as approved by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
- The Baltic Regional Transmission System Operators Gas Regional Investment Plan for 2014–2023.

The EU assistance:
On 24 April 2015 AB Amber Grid, and the European Union’s (EU) Innovation Network Executive Agency (INEA) signed an agreement on the EU's financial support for the construction of the Klaipėda-Kuršėnai gas transmission pipeline. Under this agreement, the Project will be granted the EU support of EUR 27.6 million under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
